It is well documented that human milk is the gold standard for infant nutrition, yet practitioner bias, discriminatory medical practices, predatory formula marketing, and lack of access to qualified and affordable lactation support professionals continue to impact worldwide chest/breastfeeding initiation and duration rates, particularly in our most vulnerable populations. Providing equitable and unbiased lactation education and support, prenatally and during the critical first weeks of an infant’s life, can positively impact that child’s and parent’s long term physical, mental, and emotional health.
