Many health care professionals are reluctant to routinely and universally inquire about abuse during the transition to mothering even though there is widespread recognition that abuse has devastating physical and emotional effects on the lives of women and their children, with particular vulnerabilities during the transition to mothering. This presentation will provide a starting place to explore the nuances of creating safe spaces for women survivors of abuse, and some practical strategies to respond to disclosures.
