Trauma informed care is both a theory of practice and a way of ‘being with’ others. When applied to women who have experienced abuse (childhood, sexual violence, woman abuse), trauma informed care provides a way of hearing and sharing information and support grounded in the lived context of the women we serve. Embracing trauma informed care as a lens informing our practice with women in the childbearing year requires care providers to partner “best evidence” with relational ethics. This webinar will provide a brief overview of the theory of trauma informed care before applying examples directly related to women during the childbearing year, and offer strategies for lactation consultants.
