Abstract:

Part 1: Review the basics of medical malpractice, including the four components of medical liability (duty, breach of duty, causation, and damages). Part 2: Discuss informed consent, as an ethical concept containing both comprehension and free consent. Part 3: Discuss the importance of adequate documentation, including the nuances of the electronic medical record. Part 4: Review the most common clinical situations that result in medical liability for the obstetrician-gynecologist.
