Respiratory distress is the leading cause of resuscitation and stabilization in the neonatal population. A comprehensive and concise respiratory assessment in a neonate is a key factor in the accurate diagnosis and treatment of respiratory distress or failure. It guides the provider in the type of adjuncts needed to aid the neonate to resolve their respiratory issues. In this module we define frequently used respiratory terminology, explain respiratory anatomy and physiology, describe the process of a neonatal respiratory exam, and list common neonatal respiratory conditions.
